This is a unique but effective treatment approach using the understanding of neurobiology and the vagal nerve bundle that connects our brain to the rest of our body. This is our information super highway communicating from the outer world to our inner world and our inner world to our outer world. The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) has three key pathways in this communications super highway, the dorsal vagal (immobilzation), sympathetic nervous system (mobilization), and the ventral vagus (social engagement and connection). Polyvagal treatment interventions are both psychoeducational and practical as you learn to map your ANS system and move up and down the ANS hierarchy ladder.
I often use Polyvagal Therapy in conjunction with CBT and Mindfulness to target symptoms of anxiety and depression.
